Top 5 Ways to Keep your Flowers Fresh

When you know something does not last forever, what we want most in the world is for it to last as long as it can.  So, how do you prolong the life of your flowers – be it a wrapped bouquet from a loved one or your bridal flowers? Here we share the top 5 ways to keep your flowers fresh!

1. place them in water

It sounds simple, but this is an essential step! After a long day at your wedding, place your bouquet back into a vase or container of water (provided by Liz Florals). If you received a wrapped bouquet, remove the wrapping and cotton wool before placing them in water.

If you have some time and if you have a pair of gardening scissors, you can help your flowers better absorb water by snipping 1-2cm off from the stems!

2. Remove any leaves that are in contact with water

Overtime, some leaves may fall into the water. Once you notice them, do remove them from your container of water to prevent contamination. If there are any leaves that are submerged in water, take them off before placing the stems in water.

3. Change water daily or when they are slightly murky

When the water turns yellow or chalky, change the water. The colour change signifies that bacteria may be present in the water. If you can, snip off 1-2cm of the stems to ensure that the bacteria do not stay at the ends of the stems!

It is recommended to change the water everyday too. Your flowers will thank you for the fresh supply of water.

4. Place them in a cooling environment, not in direct heat from sunlight

Do display your flowers at a cooling spot, away from direct sunlight! Some sunshine is great for the flowers, but not strong sunlight.

5. Put them away from fruits!

If you have read our article on how to keep flowers fresh before the Wedding, you would have remembered this tip! A gas may be emitted by certain fruits, and this gas can make flowers wither faster. Thus, place your flowers away from fruits to prolong their life!
